AirPods Pro (Generation 2, 2022)

Apple announced the Generation 2 version of AirPods Pro on September 7, 2022. Apple described these AirPods as the “most advanced AirPods ever” and reported the product highlights in a press release:

“With the power of the new H2 chip, AirPods Pro unlock breakthrough audio performance — including major upgrades to Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode — while also offering a unique way to experience Spatial Audio that’s even more immersive. Now, customers can enjoy Touch control for media playback and volume adjustments directly from the stem, along with longer battery life, a brand-new charging case, and an additional ear tip size for a better fit.”

The H2 chip in the AirPods Pro Generation 2 provided better noise cancellation as the original AirPods Pro and cancelled “up to twice as much noise over the previous generation.” Apple also improved the bass and engineered a “crystal-clear sound across a wider range of frequencies.” To improve the fit of this version of AirPods Pro, Apple included a new extra-small ear tip as a custom size option.

Apple also included a variety of Adaptive Audio features in the AirPods Pro Generation 2. The adaptive features worked by “automatically prioritizing sounds that need your attention as you move through the world. By seamlessly blending pro‑level Active Noise Cancellation with Transparency mode when you need it, Adaptive Audio magically delivers the right mix of sound for any environment.” Other features included:

  • Voice Isolation—Improved the quality of phone calls in loud or windy conditions using advanced computational audio.
  • Personalized Volume—Used machine learning to understand listening preferences in different environments, and automatically adapted sound over time.
  • Conversation Awareness—Automatically lowered the volume of what’s playing when speaking with someone nearby.

Three personalized listening technologies included Personalized Spatial Audio, Dynamic head tracking, and Adaptive EQ. The MagSafe Charging Case that shipped with the AirPods Pro Generation 2 allowed charging with USB‑C, an Apple Watch charger, or a MagSafe charger. The case also included Apple’s U1 chip to allow Find My with Precision Finding. Finally, the new case included a structure for a lanyard loop.

Apple Watch Series 7 (45mm, Cellular, Green Aluminum, Clover Sport Band, 2021)

The Apple Watch Series 7 is similar to the Series 6 that preceded it, but has a larger, edge-to-edge display, a more durable case, and faster charging capabilities. Like all previous Apple Watch models, the Series 7 uses Apple’s Digital Crown and a touch display with haptic feedback. Apple described the Series 7 as having “a reengineered Always-On Retina display with significantly more screen area and thinner borders.”

The Series 7 introduced two new sizes, 45mm and 41mm. This example uses a 45mm display. The display is a 396×484 LTPO OLED (approximately 1.9 inches) and is “Always On.” The display is protected by Apple’s scratch-resistant Ion-X glass.

Apple described the color choices:

“Apple Watch Series 7 introduces five beautiful new aluminum case finishes, including midnight, starlight, green, and a new blue and (PRODUCT)RED, along with a range of new band colors and styles. Stainless steel models are available in silver, graphite, and gold stainless steel, along with Apple Watch Edition in titanium and space black titanium.”

The Apple Watch Series 7 has a ceramic and sapphire crystal back. Upon release, Apple offered eleven pre-configured options:

  • Midnight Aluminum with Midnight Sport Band
  • Blue Aluminum with Abyss Blue Sport Band

Two aluminum Apple Watch Series 7 Nike options were available at release as pre-configured options:

  • Starlight Aluminum with Platinum/Black Sport Band
  • Midnight Aluminum with Anthracite/Black Sport Band

Two Apple Watch Series 7 Hermès options were available at release:

  • Space Black Stainless Steel case with patterned blue and black leather Circuit H Single Tour Band
  • Silver Stainless Steel case with brown leather Single Tour Deployment Buckle

In addition to the included Hermès-designed bands, Apple Watch Series 7 Hermès devices with black housings include a black Hermes Sport Band and models with silver housings include an orange Hermes Sport Band.

This example is cellular 45mm Green Aluminum and shipped with a Clover (medium green) Sport Band. The cellular version of the Apple Watch can send and receive calls without a tethered iPhone for an additional cost of about $10 per month.

iPad Pro (10.5-inch, 64GB, Space Gray, 2017)

When Apple introduced the 10.5-inch iPad Pro in 2017, they described it as having “the world’s most advanced display and breakthrough performance.” This 10.5-inch iPad Pro was released along with a similar 12.9-inch pro model.

Apple’s press release described the features in detail:

“Apple today introduced an all-new 10.5-inch iPad Pro and a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro, featuring the world’s most advanced display with ProMotion technology and incredible performance with the new A10X Fusion chip. The new 10.5-inch model reduces the borders by nearly 40 percent to fit into an incredibly compact package that still weighs just one pound. Combined with powerful new iPad features in iOS 11 coming this fall, like the all-new Files app, customizable Dock, improved multitasking and deeper integration of Apple Pencil, iPad Pro gives users the ability to be even more productive and creative.”

The 10.5-inch iPad Pro (model A1701) was available in silver, space gray, gold, and rose gold. It was originally priced at US$649 for the 64GB with Wi-Fi model and US$$779 for the 64GB Wi-Fi + Cellular model.

This iPad was 9.8 inches high, 6.8 inches wide, 0.24 inch deep, and weighed 1.03 pounds. Its touch screen was 10.5-inch (diagonal) with an LED-backlit Multi-Touch display, at 2224×1668 resolution (264ppi).

This 10.5-inch iPad Pro is a WiFi version with 64GB in Space Gray.

iPod touch (Generation 2, 8 GB, black, 2009)

This version of the iPod touch was originally marketed as the “new iPod touch” and designated as “iPod touch (Late 2009)” by Apple. Due to its similarities, this model is sometimes confused with the Generation 3 iPod touch, but the Generation 2 model is differentiated by the fact it cannot run an iOS version beyond iOS 4.2.1.

This iPod touch was released around the same time as the iPhone 3GS and shares many features (except the iPod touch did not have 3G/EDGE phone, A-GPS, digital compass, and integrated camera).

The iPod touch Generation 2 8 GB included a multi-touch 3.5-inch display (320×480), accelerometer, ambient light sensor, and 802.11b/g/n. It used a 30-pin connector, included a stereo headphone jack, and shipped with Apple’s standard earphones of the time.

iPod touch (Generation 3, 32 GB, black, 2009)

The iPod touch Generation 3 was very similar to the iPod touch Generation 2 and was released around the same time as the iPhone 3GS. This iPod touch had features similar to the iPhone 3GS, except the iPod touch did not include 3G/EDGE (phone), A-GPS, digital compass, or an integrated camera.

The 32 and 64 GB Generation 3 iPod touch models are the same externally as the Generation 2, but had 50% faster performance, OpenGL graphics, and ran up to iOS version iOS 5.1.1.

The iPod touch Generation 3 included a multi-touch 3.5-inch display (320×480), accelerometer, ambient light sensor, and 802.11b/g/n. It used a 30-pin connector, included a stereo headphone jack, VoiceOver voice control, and shipped with the same Earphones with Remote and Mic as the iPhone 3GS.

iPod touch (Generation 4, 8 GB, black, 2010)

Although the iPod touch Generation 4 has a design similar to the iPhone 3GS, its features more closely resemble those of the iPhone 4 that sold at the same time. (The iPod touch lacked the iPhone 4 features of 3G/EDGE phone, A-GPS, and digital compass.)

The iPod touch Generation 4 included a 3.5-inch Retina Display (960×640 at 326 ppi), FaceTime video calling (using Apple ID), an integrated microphone and front-facing VGA camera, 3-axis gyroscope, and a 720p camera (lower quality than the iPhone 4). However, the iPod touch Generation 4 allowed iMovie editing using the iOS version of iMovie available at the time.

The iPod touch Generation 4 used an A4 processor, 256 MB of RAM, and was available with 32 or 64 GB of RAM for storage.

iPod touch Generation 2 (8 GB, 2008)

The iPod touch Generation 2 is similar in features to the iPhone 3G, but lacks phone features, mobile phone networking, GPS, and a camera. While the back of the iPod touch Generation 2 is made of stainless steel (instead of plastic), its shape is similar to the iPhone 3G.

The iPod touch Generation 2 featured a multi-touch 3.5-inch display with 320×480 resolution, an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, Wi-Fi (802.11b/g), and 8, 16, or 32 GB of flash memory.

Compared to the original iPod touch, the Generation 2 model adds external volume controls on the left side of the device, an integrated speaker, external microphone (supported via the Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic), support for the Nike+iPod Sport Kit, a Genius feature to dynamically create playlists, and shaking the device to shuffle songs.
