T-shirt, The new iPod. (black, 2003)

This is a rare example of a dated Apple t-shirt created to celebrate the release of “The new iPod” (the iPod Generation 3) on May 2, 2003. Apple Store employees wore this t-shirt during the in-store release of the new iPod, and store visitors were given posters to commemorate the device’s release.

The front of the black t-shirt features a simple line drawing of the iPod Generation 3 that highlights its scroll wheel and four buttons under the LCD screen: back, MENU, play/pause, and forward. The screen shows the Apple logo.

The back of the shirt includes the stylized type “LIVE ON STAGE 5.2.03” in large size in the top-center, and adds a line of smaller text at the bottom-center of the shirt that reads “The new iPod. More than 7500 songs in your pocket.”

The t-shirt tag indicates it is a Hanes Beefy-T brand made from 100% cotton in size ADULT 2XL. It was made in Honduras.

T-Shirt, iPod Genius (black, c. 2004)

This t-shirt is black with a four-part design on the front. It has the words “iPod Genius” in lime green in the center. White silhouettes of original iPod earbuds on wires are printed on the shoulders, as though the wearer pulled the earbuds from their ears and let them rest on their shoulders. The bottom-right of the t-shirt depicts a stylized iPod with a click wheel with an Apple logo on the screen and a wire.

The t-shirt tag indicates it is a Hanes Beefy-T brand made from 100% cotton in size 2XL. It was made in Mexico. The back of the shirt includes no Apple markings.

Apple Gift Cards (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014)

This collection of Apple gift cards spans the years 2005–2014, and includes gift cards for use in Apple Stores, the iTunes Store, and Starbucks. Apple Store gift cards can be redeemed in brick-and-mortar or online Apple Stores for purchases. iTunes Store gift cards can only be used at the iTunes Store for digital music, video, app, or downloaded purchases.

The special Starbucks card in this collection was sold as a standard Starbucks gift card, but it also allowed two free song downloads in the iTunes Store. When I learned about this offer in 2007, I purchased 25 of these cards at $5 each (the minimum amount allowed for this promotion) and received 50 free song downloads on iTunes (and $125 in Starbucks purchases).

All of these cards have been redeemed.

Camp T-shirt (green)

Many Apple Stores in the 2010s hosted Apple Camp events for school-aged children. This green Apple Camp t-shirt features a yellow stylized Apple logo and the word Camp. The shirt is a size L.

iPod shuffle Generation 3 (4 GB, stainless steel, 2009, unopened)

The iPod shuffle Generation 3 was released in two stages. The initial release came in black and silver, and a later release added blue, green, pink, and an all-stainless-steel “Special Edition.”

The design of the iPod shuffle Generation 3 was considered somewhat controversial because it had no external screen or controls. The three controls—volume up, volume down, and “action”—are all on the earphone cable. VoiceOver technology, accessed using the “action” control, spoke song information.

This example is an unopened stainless steel Special Edition. It was only offered in a 4 GB capacity, and was only available at Apple Stores.
