eMate 300 Pen (unopened, 1997)

This eMate 300 Pen is a replacement stylus for the Newton eMate 300 device. The accessory is model number H0222Z/A and is unopened in the original packaging.

The eMate 300 was marketed to education as a low-cost laptop-like device, and was the only Newton with a built-in keyboard.

iPad 2 Dock (2011)

The iPad 2 Dock was released in 2011 along with the iPad 2 as a 30-pin charging option. In addition to charging, it also has a line-out audio port.

The iPad 2 Dock box somewhat confusingly designated the product as “iPad Dock.” However, the dock is a significantly larger design than the original iPad Dock, measuring 3.3 inches wide, 1.5 inches tall, and 3.6 inches deep. The sticker on the bottom of the box was printed as “iPad 2 Dock,” while the front of the box was printed with “iPad Dock.”

This dock included a front lip that made using it with an iPad in a case impossible.

100 Apple Accessories on Instagram Concludes

Back in March 2020 I began my Instagram series, 100 Apple Accessories. The series featured 100 Apple accessories posted chronologically. Each post was an original photo with the name of the accessory, a minimal amount of clarifying information, the number in the series, a short description, and a link to more photos on my blog of the accessory. For example:

Macintosh Mouse (original, 1984). 100 Apple Accessories, Number 1 – The original Macintosh Mouse, Model M0100, shipped with the original Macintosh, Macintosh 128K, and Macintosh 512K. Like all early Macintosh mouse designs, it had only one button. mattjfuller.com/macintosh-mouse-original-beige-1984/

For the purposes of my posts, my definition of an “Apple Accessory” is a physical object made by Apple that is dependent upon another device to fulfill its purpose. For example, the original Macintosh Mouse (1984) is a classic Apple design that requires another device (a computer) to fulfill its purpose.

Some of the accessories I featured are somewhat obscure. For example you will find entries for a box of eMate Replacement Pens, a PC Card storage module for PowerBook 5300 series computers, a PowerBook Battery Case for 100-series PowerBooks, the Apple Lockable Cable Fastener that shipped with the G4 Cube, and my favorite, a small collection of OEM Apple USB Mouse balls in the original Bondi blue/white color scheme.

And yes, I own all of these accessories. I began documenting my Apple collection in photos back in 2018 and these are from my Apple Collection blog. While my blog contains several photos of each accessory in a single blog entry, my Instagram series featured just one representative photo of each selected accessory.

For this final post in the series, I wish to present an image of all 100 Apple Accessories in a high-resolution portrait. I offer this image under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.

You may also download the original image on Google Drive (24 x 24 inches at 200 dpi resolution, 3 MB). Feel free to print and display it if you wish!

Apple blank DVD media (2001)

In the early 2000s when Apple began offering a re-writable CD/DVD drive as an option, they included your first blank DVD-R disc along with your Mac purchase. Apple took the opportunity to fully brand the disc with printed packaging and a custom-printed DVD-R.

I have two unused examples of this official Apple blank media, one with a grape (purple) logo “Certified for use with Power Mac G4 DVD-R drives” (part number 603-047-A, unopened in shrink wrap) and another with a blueberry (bright blue) logo “Certified for use with Apple DVD-R drives” (part number 600-8671).

AirPods Pro with Wireless Charging Case (2019)

AirPods Pro with Wireless Charging Case were released in 2019 as a follow up to the immensely popular AirPods with Apple promising “Magic like you’ve never heard.” AirPods Pro add a number of features in addition to standard AirPods, most notably Active Noise Cancellation and a custom fit using three included sets of rubber “ear tips.” Connectivity is through Bluetooth 5.0.

Like standard AirPods, AirPods Pro easily connect to iPhone or Apple Watch using a simple connection interface that begins automatically when AirPods Pro are unboxed and in proximity to a device.

AirPods Pro are powered by an Apple-designed H1 chip. They use a force sensor on the stem and/or Siri to allow direct control of many functions. They also allow Audio Sharing between two sets of AirPods.

The AirPods Pro case allows both storage and charging. The case connects to a Lightning port or can use a wireless Qi-certified charger.

Audio technology includes: Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency mode, Adaptive EQ, vent system for pressure equalization, custom high-excursion Apple driver, and custom high dynamic range amplifier.

Sensors include: dual beamforming microphones, inward-facing microphone, dual optical sensors, motion-detecting accelerometer, speech-detecting accelerometer, and a Force sensor.

Controls include:
Press once to play, pause, or answer a phone call.
Press twice to skip forward.
Press three times to skip back.
Press and hold to switch between Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode.
Say “Hey Siri” to do things like play a song, make a call, or get directions.

Apple Gift Cards (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014)

This collection of Apple gift cards spans the years 2005–2014, and includes gift cards for use in Apple Stores, the iTunes Store, and Starbucks. Apple Store gift cards can be redeemed in brick-and-mortar or online Apple Stores for purchases. iTunes Store gift cards can only be used at the iTunes Store for digital music, video, app, or downloaded purchases.

The special Starbucks card in this collection was sold as a standard Starbucks gift card, but it also allowed two free song downloads in the iTunes Store. When I learned about this offer in 2007, I purchased 25 of these cards at $5 each (the minimum amount allowed for this promotion) and received 50 free song downloads on iTunes (and $125 in Starbucks purchases).

All of these cards have been redeemed.

Apple Watch Sport Loop (44 mm, Anchor Gray, 2019)

The Apple Watch Sport Loop band is woven from nylon thread to create a hook-and-loop closure. They are available for the 38/40 mm and 42/44 mm Apple Watch models, and are offered in Regular size to fit 130–190 mm wrists.

The Apple Watch Sport Loop band has been available in several styles, including (PRODUCT)RED (two versions), Spicy Orange, Nectarine, Electric Pink, Hibiscus, Hot Pink, Pink Sand, Flash Light, Flash, Marine Green, Tahoe Blue, Cape Cod Blue, Midnight Blue, Indigo, Dark Olive, Storm Gray, Black, and Seashell. Close inspection of original styles reveal that designs are comprised of a base color and one or more accent colors; for example, Indigo uses a dark blue base color with accent threads in white, red, and purple. Newer styles use a two-tone design with one or more accent colors—Pomegranate, Khaki, Alaskan Blue, Camel, Midnight Blue. This Anchor Gray Sport Loop has a two-tone gray design.

Apple describes the Apple Watch Sport Loop band:

“Soft, breathable, and lightweight, the Sport Loop features a hook-and-loop fastener for quick and easy adjustment. The double-layer nylon weave has dense loops on the skin side that provide soft cushioning while allowing moisture to escape. On the reverse side, the attachment loops are securely anchored for superior durability.”
