Apple Watch Sport Band (42 mm, Midnight Blue, gold pin, OEM packaging, Fall 2015)

The Apple Watch Sport Band was made from a flexible rubber material called fluoroelastomer with a metal pin closure. Sizes ranged from S/M, M/L, or L/XL. When purchasing an Apple Watch Sport Band, the S/M and M/L sizes are included in the box, allowing the band to fit wrists 140–210 mm.

Apple described the Apple Watch Sport band:

“Made from a custom high-performance fluoroelastomer, the Sport Band is durable and strong, yet surprisingly soft. The smooth, dense material drapes elegantly across your wrist and feels comfortable next to your skin. An innovative pin-and-tuck closure ensures a clean fit.”

This version of the Midnight Blue (Generation 1) Apple Watch Sport Band includes a gold pin to match the gold Apple Watch models of the time. Alternate versions of the band had a silver and a rose gold pin.

This band did not come in Apple’s retail packaging. It was purchased from a website that sold Apple replacement parts and used Apple’s OEM packaging.

Apple Watch Leather Loop (42 mm, Midnight Blue, Fall 2015)

The Apple Watch Leather Loop band is comprised of leather-wrapped magnets. The band is sold in two sizes, Medium for 150–185 mm wrists and Large for 180–210 mm wrists. They are available for both the 38/40 mm and 42/44 mm Apple Watch models.

The Leather Loop band was among Apple’s original band designs in 2015 and has been available in several colors, including Stone, Light Brown, Saddle Brown, Forest Green, Cosmos Blue, Cape Cod Blue, Bright Blue, Midnight Blue, Black, Charcoal Gray, Storm Gray, Smoke Gray, White, and Meyer Lemon.

Apple describes the Apple Watch Leather Loop band:

“The Venezia leather for this band is handcrafted in Arzignano, Italy. With an artisan heritage spanning five generations, the tannery has a history of partnership with some of the most prestigious names in fashion. A delicate milling and tumbling process enhances the beautiful pebbled texture. And magnets concealed within the soft, quilted leather allow you to simply wrap it around your wrist for a precise fit and a trim look.”

The Midnight Blue band is a very dark shade of blue and looks good with Stainless Steel, Aluminum, and Space Gray Apple Watch models. I like this style because it uses no mechanical fasteners that might potentially scratch a surface.

Apple Watch Series 2 Nike+ (42 mm, Space Gray aluminum case with Apple Watch Leather Loop, 42 mm, Midnight Blue, 2016)

The Apple Watch Series 2 models were called “the ultimate device for a healthy life” and added “incredible fitness and health capabilities including a water resistance 50 meter rating for swimming, and built-in GPS so users can now run without an iPhone.” The announcement for the Apple Watch Series 2 was made on September 7, 2016, approximately one year after the announcement of the original Apple Watch.

Apple Watch Series 2 models included a dual core processor, water resistance to 50 meters, and built-in GPS. This Apple Watch Series 2 model is a the Nike+ version in the 42 mm size and featured a 312×390 display with an anodized aluminum case.

The Apple Watch Series 2 Nike+ configurations had a custom Nike+ fluroelastomer band with compression-molded perforations—also known as holes—that reduced weight and improved ventilation. The Nike+ models included custom Nike-branded watch faces. There originally were four Apple Watch Nike+ configurations:

  • silver aluminum case with silver/volt (neon yellow) Nike sport band
  • silver aluminum case with silver/white Nike sport band
  • space gray aluminum case with black/volt (neon yellow) Nike sport band
  • space gray aluminum case with black/cool gray Nike sport band

This Apple Watch was purchased with the silver/volt band. In this photo, the band has been replaced with a midnight blue leather loop.
